Personal and Professional Life
The Inner Workings of an American Icon

Early Life

As an infant, Jobs was adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs from Mountain View, California (the area that later turned in to Silicon Valley). From an early age, Paul encouraged his son's love of electronics and assisted him in reconstructing various electronics, a hobby that would instill confidence in Steve and further his tenacity. Despite his frustrations with formal schooling, Jobs attended Homestead High School where he was introduced to U.C. Berkley student and future business partner Steve Wozniak

Apple's Beginning

After dropping out of Portland's Reed College after only 6 months, Jobs spent the next 18 months dropping in on the college's more creative classes. Jobs noted that his love of typography stemmed from a calligraphy course.
Jobs left a video game design position at Atari in 1974 and went on to India, seeking enlightenment. Upon returning to California, Jobs and Wozniak began work on the first Apple Computer in the Jobs' family garage.
The success of the first Apple Computer allowed for the creation of the Apple II, which increased sales by 700%.

Life After Apple

In 1985, Jobs left Apple due to professional disagreements within the company. A year later, Jobs purchased an animation studio for George Lucas that would later become Pixar Animation Studios, When the studio merged with Disney in 2006, Jobs became Disney's largest shareholder.

In 1997, Steve Jobs returned to Apple and helped to revitalize the company. New products, designs, and campaigns brought Apple to the public's attention once again.

Personal Life

Jobs was a rather private man who kept his family out of the public eye. He was married to Laurene Powell in 1991 and had 3 children with her. Jobs had another daughter, Lisa, with college girlfriend, Chrisann Brennan. Steve Jobs lived in Palo Alto, California with his family until 2011 when he lost his decade long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 56 years old.
